Calcium Sulfate (CaSO4) deposit reduces heat exchange in heat transfer equipment which adversely affects the equipment performance and plant production. This experimental study was conducted by using the Rotating Cylinder Electrode (RCE) equipment available in the university’s Center for Engineering Research (CER/RI) to study and compare the effect of solution hydrodynamics on Calcium Sulfate (CaSO4) scale deposition on coated carbon steel and titanium surfaces. In addition, the Scanning Electron Microscopic was used to examine the morphology and distribution of Calcium Sulfate (CaSO4) crystals deposited on titanium metal surfaces. In this study, the rotational speed was varied from 100 to 2000 RPM to study the behavior of Calcium Sulfate (CaSO4) accumulation on both materials. Based on the experimental results, Calcium Sulfate (CaSO4) scale obtained in the present study was almost constant on coated carbon steel in which the rate of scale deposition is equal to the rate of scale removal. However, the deposition of Calcium Sulfate (CaSO4) observed on titanium material was increased as the speed increased.

The field of Constant Mean Curvature (CMC) surfaces had its beginning in the nineteenth century with the works of Riemann, Weierstrass and Enneper. Recently it has enjoyed a surge of growth due to the advent of computer graphics. This field has applications in many applied fields such as applied physics, polymer science, architecture, and computer graphics. The method for the construction of CMC surfaces was developed by J. Dorfmeister, F. Pedit, and H. Wu; it is commonly called the DPW method. The DPW method is a Weierstrass type representation for CMC surfaces, using techniques of integrable systems. It gives an algorithm to compute all CMC surfaces. This book includes: explicit conformal parametrizations of CMC surfaces of revolution, in each of the three space forms Euclidean 3-space, spherical 3-space and hyperbolic 3-space by using the DPW method; the lower bounds for the Morse index and nullity of CMC tori of revolution in the 3-sphere; the spectra of Jacobi operators for CMC tori of revolution in the 3-sphere; stability properties of CMC surfaces of revolution in general simply-connected spherically symmetric 3-spaces, and in the particular case of Schwarzschild space.

In experiments looking for rare events, like neutrinoless double beta decay (DBD0v) and dark matter search (DM), one of the main issues is to increase the experimental sensitivity through the material selection and production. In the specific the background contribution coming from the materials used for the detector realization has to be minimized. Moreover the net reduction of the background produced by the bulk part of the apparatus has raised concerns about the background contribution coming from the surfaces. Many procedures and techniques were developed to minimize the presence of possible contaminants on detector surfaces. To succeed in this strategy a big effort was put in defining all possible mechanisms that lead to surface contaminations. The presence in air and gases of possible radioactive elements that can stick on the detector surfaces can lead to a recontamination process that will vanish all the applied cleaning procedures. Here is presented and analyzed the contribution to the background of rare events experiments like CUORE (DBD0v) and EDELWEISS (DM) produced by an exposure of their detector components to a Radon-222 contamination.

Analytical solutions of the nonlinear PDEs are presented to illustrate the wave propagation in granular materials. Theoretical investigations carried out for different values of the dispersion and microstructure parameters seem to show that the solutions of the models exhibit interesting features. Also, theoretical study of the two phase system of flow is presented to describe the fluid flow through porous granular matrix, and the various solutions of the magma equation are discussed to illustrate the evolution of porosity waves in the earth’s interior. In addition, we consider the fluidization of granular materials by a vibrating wall. The system is studied in the case of viscous and inviscid model. Grains are modeled as smooth rigid disks and the collisions are characterized by a constant normal restitution coefficient. The solutions of the van der Waals model of a granular system, exhibit appearance of bubbles. The instability is caused by the energy dissipation at collisions. Painleve analysis is introduced to investigate the integrability. Dispersion properties are also discussed. This book is suitable and will be interesting for all researchers in related fields.

Investigation of air quality in the cabins of new vehicles on the basis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) presence, emitted by interior equipment, is described in present work. Air samples were collected from two car brands, both produced in Poland, which differed in interior equipment. Active method and two solid sorbents, thermal desorption and gas chromatography were applied to analyse VOCs in vehicle interior. The differences in air composition between different examples of the same vehicle model with the same equipment were checked as well as differences between different vehicle models. In each vehicle about 200 different organic compounds were found. They presence was connected with the cabin interior equipment and materials off-gassing. These compounds were present in a form of complex mixture, which made the determination of the exact air composition in the vehicle interior a scientific challenge. Present work is a part of dissertation, which was realised in BOSMAL AR&DI Ltd in Bielsko-Biala and Wroclaw University of Technology.

In recent years, interest in renewable and biodegradable materials has increased tremendously. The global market for renewable and biodegradable materials continues to grow due to societal awareness and problems arising from non-biodegradable materials. In this research, oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) fibre was used as an interesting source of lignocellulosic filler in the preparation of cost effective, biodegradable composites. PBAT (Ecoflex(TM)),which is an aliphatic aromatic co-polyester, was used as bio-thermoplastic polymer matrix. The aim of this research was to fabricate a new class of biocomposite based on PBAT/EFB fibre and to improve the new biocomposites’ performance by chemical modification using succinic anhydride as a coupling agent in the presence and absence of dicumyl peroxide and benzoyl peroxide initiators. Optimised proportionate loading provided impressive physical, mechanical and thermal properties. Biodegradability and FTIR analyses of samples and SEM micrographs of tensile fractured surfaces as well as many other aspects of this research has been thoroughly detailed within this publication.

In a Minkowski three dimensional space we define a semi-inner-product based on the so-called cosine-Minkowski function. We also construct an orthogonal 3D frame in Birkhoff sense, which is canonically adapted to ruled surfaces: beginning with the generator direction we complete this frame using the strictly convex and centrally symmetric unit ball B, which is described either by supporting function or vector representation. Based on the left-orthogonality defined by ball B, the striction curve of a ruled surface in a Minkowski 3-space can be declared in analogy to the Euclidean case. We define the new vector called “Deformation vector” which helps us to find the Frenet-Serret formulae of the ruled surface in the Minkowski three dimension spaces. In these formulae we insert the M-curvatures and M-Torsions with respect to the Minkowski frame. We also can define a covariant differentiation in a Minkowski 3-space, with this can declare geometric M-parallelity of the vector field of the generator of a skew ruled surface along its Minkowski striction curve. Using the second fundamental form the relation between Euclidean and Minkowski normal vectors is given.
